Mehlville School District employees, seen above March 23, are handing out grab-and-go meals of breakfast and lunch to all children living in the Mehlville School District during the extended closure. The meals are available at seven sites.

The Mehlville School District will continue providing grab-and-go meals to students after the governor ordered all Missouri school buildings closed through the end of the year.

Meals are available to any student 18 or younger who lives in the district, even if they go to private school.

But to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus that led to the shutdown of schools, the district will be instituting some changes to the  grab-and-go meal service starting next week, Monday, April 13.

In a message emailed to all parents Thursday, Superintendent Chris Gaines said, “We have made a few changes to our process to improve safety for our staff and for families picking up meals.”

Starting next week, families can pick up meals only on Mondays and Thursdays rather than every day.

On Monday, the district will provide breakfasts and lunches for three days. On Thursday, the district will provide breakfasts and lunches for two days.

“Currently, we intend to serve meals through June 30,” Gaines said.

Families in the district can pick up meals at:

Serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Mehlville High School (3200 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, MO, 63125)
  • Oakville High School (5557 Milburn Road, St. Louis, MO, 63129)
  • Bierbaum Elementary School (2050 Union Road, St. Louis, MO, 63125)

Serving from 11 a.m. to noon:

  • Lemay 1 and Lemay 2 (Adworth Drive and Barracksview Drive)
  • The Vineyards (Daiquiri Lane, near tennis court area)

Serving from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.:

  • Jefferson Townhomes (Tuckahoe Drive and Poplar Forest)
  • Casa Brazilia (Casa Brazilia Drive)

These meals are for students 18 or younger living in Mehlville School District only, the district posted on its website. Families are asked to remain in their cars. A Mehlville School District staff member will deliver a sack lunch and sack breakfast to your vehicle for each student present in that vehicle. Students must be present in the vehicle to receive a meal.

Mehlville High School is where the district’s food storage is located, making it the best location for preparing large quantities of student meals. However, the district will also be using school buses to deliver meals to those six additional locations.

Voluntary Intradistrict Choice Corporation (VICC) students may access grab-and-go meals close to home through St. Louis Public Schools. https://www.slps.org/meals

Any student can get a free lunch and breakfast each day. Students must be present, and the district prefers they arrive via car and remain in the car in the pick-up lanes.

Of students attending without their parents, the district said, “We will serve any student, while supplies last. Young students should be supervised and must respect social distancing.”
