Students in Lindbergh High School’s 60th graduating class were awarded 804 scholarships with a monetary value of $13.95 million, Principal Ron Helms said during the school’s Class of 2013 graduation ceremony last week.

This year’s senior class also celebrated the school’s National Blue Ribbon School Award in 2013, besides Missouri Gold Star School and National School of Character honors during their four years at LHS, according to a news release.

“These graduates have lived out the character traits, especially respect and responsibility,” Helms told the audience at commencement exercises May 28. “As a class, they have given back more than 4,000 hours of service to our community. Graduates, you will always be remembered as the class that led our school to Missouri Gold Star and National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence honors.”

The 484 graduates walked across the stage and received their diplomas during the evening ceremony at Chaifetz Arena.

The Flyers who turned their tassels will soar on to promising journeys that will further their lives, educations and careers, the release stated. Ninety-three percent will attend 82 different colleges, while 2 percent will enroll in schools of advanced training, 3 percent will serve in the military and 2 percent will enter the work force.

Once again, LHS was ranked among America’s best high schools by Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report and the Washington Post. This year, 304 students were awarded 804 scholarships, including 43 Missouri Bright Flight Scholarships, 167 A+ Scholarship candidates, 37 athletic scholarships and 13 music, theater and art scholarships. The class of 2013 includes five National Merit finalists, one National Achievement Scholarship winner, six National Merit semifinalists, six National Merit Commended Students, 49 George Washington Carver Award winners, 52 Charles A. Lindbergh Scholars and 12 International Baccalaureate candidates.
