A new season brings new goals for the Lindbergh boys golf team.
The Flyers finished 6-3 last season and return three key pieces in senior Nick Tallevast and juniors Braden Wright and Freddy Amad.
“We are focused on doing well at districts and qualifying as a team for the state tournament,” Lindbergh’s head coach Michael Tyler said. “The team feels confident about having a strong chance this season.”
Along with the returning varsity members from last season, Tyler will look to junior Grant Evans to contribute as he moves up from junior varsity. Seniors John Eckrich and Noah Wiltse are new to the team this year, but could also make an impact in the 2025 campaign.
Despite it being early in practice, Tyler said he’s already seeing positive signs from the team.
“The leadership qualities from the entire team are already evident,” Tyler said. “There’s a strong commitment to improvement. The team has a great mix of leadership and experience. That bodes well for their success in a competitive district.”
The Flyers play in a district filled with tough competition from teams such as Oakville, CBC, SLUH and Jackson. Lindbergh finished fourth last season in the Suburban West Red Pool Conference tournament.
One of the positives for the Flyers this season will be the depth of the team. Tyler is confident that most of his golfers can perform at a high level and help the team when needed.
“Almost every player can contribute at a high level,” Tyler said. “There are many who are capable of shooting low scores. The combination of experience and depth gives them a great advantage. The competition within the team for playing spots might be intense, but it’s seen as an opportunity for growth and preparation for competitive events.”
After last season, Tyler said his returning golfers are looking to atone for their performances in big events this season. He said a number of the players were not pleased with the way they played.
“The team felt they could have performed better in big events last year,” Tyler said. “With more experience and solid mechanics, they hope to improve and advance to the state tournament this time around.”
While all contests are important, Tyler said the Flyers will be ultra-focused when it comes to tournaments.
“The team is excited for the entire schedule, but especially looks forward to competing in their conference and district tournaments, where they hope to have the most success,” Tyler said.
Lindbergh opens the season at 3:30 p.m. on March 24 with a match against Parkway South and Northwest.
