Things are clicking for the Lindbergh High School baseball team this spring, as the Flyers storm into mid-April with a 10-2 record and one of the area’s hottest offenses. Coming off an 18-15 season in 2024, head coach Darin Scott’s squad looks reenergized and determined after securing their fifth straight win with a commanding 13-2 victory over Kirkwood on April 14.
Leading the offensive charge is senior Luke Seiler, who boasts a .516 batting average, 14 RBIs and two home runs. But Seiler is far from alone in the Flyers’ stacked lineup. Lindbergh currently features five players hitting above .300, with additional power coming from Ethan Cantareira (3 HR), CJ Luczak, Adler Crask and Luke Fisher. Cantareira had another big day against Kirkwood, as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, a pair of RBIs and three stolen bases.
“We’ve got a balanced group that can hit for average and power,” Scott said. “That makes us dangerous in every inning.”
The Flyers’ strength isn’t limited to the batter’s box. On the mound, Lindbergh’s pitching staff has been lights out, allowing fewer than four runs per game in every game but two this season, and tallying five shutouts. Senior Jack Politte leads the rotation with 22.3 innings pitched and a 2-1 record. Meanwhile, John Calcaterra and Nathan Leist have both emerged as dominant arms, combining for a 4-0 record and sub-1.00 ERAs to go along with 23 combined strikeouts. Junior Austin Jones has also impressed with a 3-1 record, 0.44 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
“We would love to repeat as champions,” Scott said. “But more importantly, we want to finish strong in the conference and earn a shot at the district championship.”
Returning All-Conference seniors like catcher Lane Elder (.407 in 2024) and center fielder Ethan Cantareira (.354, 13 RBIs) anchor the roster, while the pitching staff gets a boost from returning starters Luke Steiner and Politte, both of whom contributed heavily last season.
Adding to Lindbergh’s depth is a strong influx of young talent. A promising freshman class, along with standout JV call-ups, is expected to see varsity time.
“Our freshman class is very strong,” Scott said. “The competition is healthy and drives us to have great practices.”
Still, the road ahead isn’t easy, especially with a tough conference schedule nearing.
“Conference play is always a battle,” Scott said. “But we embrace it. Playing top-tier teams helps us prepare for the postseason.”
With a dynamic lineup, dominant pitching, and growing depth, the Flyers have all the ingredients to build upon the hot start. But, as Scott emphasized, it’ll take more than talent to reach their ceiling.
“We will reach our potential if everyone buys in and believes in what we are trying to do as a team,” Scott said.
