In today’s world, tolerance a valuable lesson

To the editor:

As I type this letter in response to Peggy Trefts’ letter regarding the “Marriage Amendment,” the main story in the news this morning was more photos from Abu Gharib showing two soldiers gloating over a — presumably — Iraqi corpse.

The image of Nick Berg is emblazoned in my brain, as it should be in everyone’s.

In Miami, another child — 3 years old — was beaten to death by her mother, despite repeated calls to an ineffective CPS system.

Health care is a dream for those who don’t have the money, which happens to be a lot of people right now, since unemployment rates remain high.

And Peggy Trefts is threatened over gay marriage?

Get a life. I don’t know which church or faith you follow, Ms. Trefts, nor do I want to know, as it seems to be one that picks and chooses who should benefit from your “Christian” values.

The church I attend opens it arms to all of God’s creatures, because according to God, that’s what we are.

What we might be teaching our children by legalizing gay marriage could be tolerance of others’ choices.

Perhaps then we wouldn’t have some of the problems we are encountering today.
