Darrell Jackson, the highly touted, well-known quarterback from Webster Groves High School, showed exactly why he is so dangerous last weekend in Webster’s 42-6 win over the Oakville Tigers.

A unique player that is dangerous both passing and running the ball, Jackson was held to just six yards rushing for the Statesmen.

Unfortunately, the Tigers were not able to duplicate that containment when it came to Jackson’s passing exploits, as he completed 21 of 29 passes in the game for 267 yards and three touchdowns.

Jackson found nine different receivers to throw to in the game, with Landen Fitzgerald leading Webster with eight catches for 81 yards.

Anthony Ivy also had a big day for Webster Groves, pulling in three passes and scoring two touchdowns.

“Webster played a tremendous game against us,” Oakville Coach Jerry Maulin said. “Everything they did seemed to go right, but we played hard and never quit. That’s all you can ask.”

Leading the way for Oakville was Reggie Ward, who ran for 97 yards and also had a 40-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Ryan Gray.

It was Jackson, though, who put on the show.

“We would make a good play on him, then he’d come back and hit us,” Maulin told the Call. “He was on the money and played a great game. He hit the receivers right where he needed to, and he can’t play much better than that.”

Webster, the defending Class 5 state champion, is now 5-1 on the year, while Oakville fell to 3-3.

Up next for Oakville is Fort Zumwalt South, which also is 3-3.

“Zumwalt South looks pretty good,” Maulin said. “They have good size — they will be bigger than we are — but we’re looking forward to the game.”

Oakville and Fort Zumwalt South will play at 7 p.m. Friday at Oakville Senior High School, 5557 Milburn Road.
