Five Mehlville School District students have been selected as National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.
The students who qualified are Iain Bennett, Abby Menkhus, Madelyn Reinagel and Caroline Tank from Oakville Senior High School and Andrew Eschete from Mehlville Senior High School.
An estimated 1.5 million students begin the process of becoming a National Merit Scholarship winner by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, according to a district news release.
The five Mehlville School District students are among the 16,000 students na-tionwide who made the semifinalist list.
They must now write an essay as part of the process to becoming a National Merit Scholarship finalist. The list of finalists will be announced in February.
