Essay earns honorarium for journalism program

Oakville Senior High School graduate Samantha Cantrell’s essay “Passing on Purpose” has been published in a booklet, Noble Purpose: a Guide for Educators.

Cantrell’s essay was selected among thousands of nationwide entries to be published in the guide, which features ideas and teaching tips for encouraging young people to write about their noble purpose in the Laws of Life essay contest.

Cantrell originally had submitted the essay as part of a Laws of Life writing assignment in her journalism class.

Along with being published, Cantrell’s contribution to the guide won Oakville’s journalism program a $500 honorarium, which will help continue to fund the Laws of Life essay contest. Laws of Life essays embody universal ideals and allow students to reflect on and write about their own guiding principles.

Cantrell was the photo editor on the 2004 Tiger Paw yearbook staff and currently attends Meramec Community College.
