On July 22, St. Louis County police officer Jeremy Hake, contracted in Green Park, received a call about a barking dog on Bobmar Drive. The citizen who alerted City Hall was worried for the dog, who was inside a closed garage on a hot day, because they knew its owner had not been home in several days.
Upon opening the garage, Hake and an animal control officer found a six or seven-year-old St. Bernard, covered in fleas. They immediately cared for the dog.
It was 95 degrees. The back door of the garage was open, so the dog could access the backyard, where there was a brick of ice and a large pan of dog food. The homeowner was not home and could not be immediately reached; they were left a notice about animal neglect/abuse.
Hake says the found dog was taken to the Animal Control Center and eventually adopted by someone who works there.
