The Mehlville Board of Education voted unanimously at its March 24 meeting to implement a four-tier bus transportation system for the 2011-12 school year.
This decision is a part of the $4.6 million budget reduction plan, crafted over the past year in an attempt to keep cuts as far away from the classroom as possible, according to a district news release.
The new four-tier bus transportation system will provide significant cost-savings to the district due to a decreased need for personnel, buses and fuel, the release stated.
The new system will necessitate a change to school start and finish times next school year. The following are start and end times for the 2011-12 school year:
Mehlville and Oakville High School — Start: 7:20 a.m. End: 2:05 p.m.
Bernard, Oakville and Buerkle Middle — Start: 8 a.m. End: 2:45 p.m.
Washington Middle — Start: 8:40 a.m. End: 3:25 p.m.
Beasley, Blades, Forder, Oakville and Rogers Elementary — Start: 8:40 a.m. End: 3:25 p.m.
Bierbaum, Hagemann, Point, Trautwein and Wohlwend Elementary — Start: 9:15 a.m. End: 4 p.m.
The district’s goal is to rotate its elementary schools on the fourth tier — later start/end times — every four years, the release stated. Visit the district’s website at
