The city of Crestwood plans to replace the current small and large play structures at Spellman Park, and staff is looking for residents’ opinions.
To do so, an open house will be held from 4 – 6 p.m. at Spellman Park, 1050 Spellman Ave., where community members can give input on the design. Different playground options will be available to view.
Crestwood residents and community members from surrounding municipalities can look at a few of the proposed designs on the city’s website. Director of Crestwood’s Parks and Recreation Department Eilien Ramirez says these are only a few samples, and she is working to get more. An online survey will be released on the night of the open house, and it will remain open for a week, for those who wish to give feedback virtually.
In June, staff members from both the Crestwood Parks and Recreation and the Crestwood Public Works departments replaced a sand volleyball court at Whitecliff Park themselves — saving money that would have gone to a contractor. At that time, it was suggested that the funds saved in that project could be redirected to the Spellman Park playground replacement.
“We want to get through the open house and see what people want first,” Ramirez said. “Once we have a selection, I will confirm pricing. As long as that falls in that range of what is saved from doing the sand volleyball in-house, I will then take it to the Board of Aldermen. It is up to them to approve it at that time.”
