The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on Oct. 25 against suspect Richard Meshell, 50 years of age, of the 1000 block of Wachtel Avenue, for first-degree robbery and resisting arrest for a felony.
Meshell is being held on $75,000, cash only, no 10%, bond.
The charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
According to a probable cause statement, at 11:13 a.m. on Oct. 25, Meshell was identified as the person who entered Century Credit Union, 1540 Lemay Ferry Road, and presented a note that threatened harm if he wasn’t given money. Meshell’s hand was in his pocket, and he made a motion as if he was armed with a firearm.
The incident was captured on video.
Police observed Meshell nearby and ordered him to stop. Meshell, however, attempted to flee on his motor scooter. In doing so, he ran into the officer, causing the officer to suffer injuries.
Meshell was found in possession of money from the bank and the note that was used. He also had a can opener in his pocket.
Meshell admitted to the offense.
The St. Louis County Police Department South County Precinct officers are leading this investigation.
