The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on Oct. 25 on suspect Amanda Chaplin, 40, of the 3000 block of Lin-Tel Road, for first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action.
Chaplin is being held on a $250,000 cash-only, no 10%, bond.
The charges are merely accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
According to a probable cause statement, the defendant and victim – who are married – got into an argument in the 3000 block of Lin-Tel Road at 1:07 a.m. on Oct. 23.
During the argument, the victim removed a gun from a drawer and said he was going to kill himself. Chaplin successfully wrestled the gun away from the victim and told him to leave the residence. The victim then walked down the driveway about 60 feet from his vehicle.
From a neighbor’s camera, Chaplin can be seen and heard calling the victim names and saying that she was going to kill him. She then fired two rounds at the victim, one of the rounds hitting him in the ear.
Doctors at the hospital located an entry and exit wound on the back of the victim’s head.
The St. Louis County Police Department South County Precinct officers are leading this investigation.
