The Mehlville School District’s Early Childhood Center recently was transformed by youngsters into an enchanted rain forest.

Early Childhood Center Teacher Maggie Naucke focused this month on working with pupils on learning about a rain forest and making one, according to a district news release.

Naucke worked with pupils to create a magical tree that pupils finger painted and sponge painted.

Pupils made a rainfall by painting their feet blue and sliding across a piece of paper.

For pupils to tour the rain forest on a safari with parents, they constructed paper hats to keep the rain out of their eyes and used toilet paper rolls to make binoculars to view the magical forest.

Naucke spent the month reading “Slowly, Slowly, Slowly Said the Sloth” by Eric Carle to pupils to highlight animals that are found in rain forests. Pupils experienced a “jungle obstacle course” in the gym with brown triangles taped to their hands to demonstrate a sloth’s claws.

Pupils and parents enjoyed their journey into the wonders of the rain forest, according to the release.
