A bike/walk this weekend on Grant’s Trail in Green Park will benefit Heartland Industries, a sheltered workshop that provides jobs to adults with a range of developmental disabilities.

Parents of Heartland Industries will host the bike/walk Saturday, Oct. 26 in Green Park. The event begins at 9 a.m., with a staggered start of 25 walkers/riders every 5 to 10 minutes. The ride/walk will begin at Heartland, 9727 Green Park Industrial Drive, and proceed to the new connector to Grant’s Trail.

Heartland provides contract packaging services for over 80 different businesses.

Those interested in registering can visit www.rideforheartland.weebly.com. Registration fees are $20 for riders and $10 for bikers.

There will be three different routes that riders and walkers can take.

The main ride/walk will begin at Heartland Industries to Grant’s Trail, then south/east to the Orlando’s trailhead, approximately 3.1 miles. After turning around at the Orlando trailhead, the ride/walk will proceed north/west to the Kirkwood trailhead, approximately 8 miles. After turning around at the Kirkwood trailhead, the ride/walk will head back to the Heartland Facility, approximately 6.5 miles. Volunteers will be stationed along the main route at multiple locations.

Alternate Route No. 1 will begin at the Heartland facility and proceed south on Green Park Industrial Drive to right on Lake Bluff Drive. The route will turn around at the Purina facility and proceed back to Green Park Industrial Drive to the Heartland facility. The total distance is approximately 1.1 miles.

Alternate Route No. 2 will start at the Heartland facility and proceed south on Green Park Industrial Drive to right on Lake Bluff Drive. The route will turn around at the Purina facility and proceed left on Evergreen Industrial Drive to Green Park Industrial Drive back to the facility.

Burgers, brats and soft drinks will be available for purchase at Heartland following the completion of the ride/walk.
