Baer named Metro’s permanent chief executive

Bob Baer, who has served as the Metro transit agency’s interim president and chief executive officer for the past 22 months, recently was named the agency’s permanent chief executive.

He will be paid $190,000 a year.

County Executive Charlie Dooley appointed Baer to the interim position in December 2007 after former chief executive officer, Larry Salci, stepped down.

Baer is the retired head of United Van Lines and former Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District Board of Trustees chairman. He also served as the head of the Bi-State Development Agency, which is Metro’s formal title, in the 1970s.
