A woman was killed when a car hit her while she was standing outside her car Friday morning on Telegraph Road in Oakville.

Traffic has been stopped both ways on Telegraph Road at Greymonte Estates Drive, the 6400 and 6500 blocks of Telegraph Road, for three hours after the fatal crash, but the St. Louis County Police Department said the road should reopen any minute.

The South County Precinct responded to the crash at 8:22 a.m. Friday and found that the pedestrian was hit by a Honda Accord sedan driven northbound on Telegraph by a man, 38, who was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries and is cooperating with the investigation.

The woman, 46, whose name has not yet been released by police, had gotten out of her Toyota Sequoia SUV parked along Telegraph and was standing on the road when she was hit, with her three children — ranging in age from 10 to 15 — still in the car. Police did not say why she got out of her car or whether she was on the side of the road, just that she was “on the roadway.” She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three children were taken to area hospitals as a precaution, police said.

The woman is the second pedestrian to be struck and killed on Telegraph Road this year. A man from High Ridge died after being hit while crossing Telegraph Road by Arrowhead Estates in February.

The crash is under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons, Crime Scene Unit and Accident Reconstruction Team.

Detectives ask anyone with any information to contact the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210 to speak to investigators.
