Three-county police chase starts with south county robbery, suspects get away

A police chase that ended across the river in Illinois Tuesday started in south county with the robbery of a tow truck driver at Butler Hill Road and Interstate 55.

The St. Louis County Police Department received a call about the robbery of the tow truck driver around 3:14 p.m. The victim was uninjured in the incident, but was robbed of a an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

The pursuit from county police ended when officers lost sight of the suspect’s car around downtown St. Louis.

That car was found abandoned and unoccupied soon after along Interstate 55/70 in Madison County, Illinois.

The suspect or suspects remain at large.

The county Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

No officers or citizens were injured in the chase, and there were no accidents as a result of the crash that county police are aware of.
