Two students from Bayless High School — freshman Curnice Carter and sophomore Mahsa Jalili — as well as Bayless Junior High School seventh grader Sarah Hodzic were chosen as three of the 13 winners in this year’s St. Louis County Department of Public Health Healthy Living Calendar Contest.
The Healthy Living Calendar Contest is an annual art competition for St. Louis County students from kindergarten all the way through twelfth grade; submitted artwork must illustrate healthy living habits. Only 13 students out of 779 total submissions in St. Louis County were selected.
“The Healthy Living Calendar contest is something our students enjoy participating in every year, and we are so proud to have three students in this year’s edition,” said Stephen Terrill, the marketing and communications coordinator at Bayless. “We were informed that 779 students entered across St. Louis County, so having three winners is a credit to our students’ artistic skills and our art teachers Patti Mudd and Jen Cerame.”
Jalili’s artwork — a colorful piece that utilizes imagery like fruit, a tennis racket, a yoga mat, a skateboard and more — was selected to be the cover piece for the 2026 calendar. Carter’s artwork, which depicts a young woman dancing with the caption, “Live life freely. Dance to your own beat,” represents the month of May.
