Sunset Transportation, a south county-based third-party logistics provider, announced the expansion of its leadership team with the appointment of Craig Marton as president and chief operating officer.

Sunset founder Jim Williams will become chairman and chief executive officer.

This new leadership appointment supports Sunset’s double-digit growth over the last several years and positions the company to continue to benefit its customers with enhanced services and savings, according to a news release.

Marton is a seasoned leader and strategist with experience across multiple industries and market channels. He most recently served as president and CEO of LMC Industries Inc., a long-term client of Sunset Transportation. While at LMC, Marton boosted sales and improved efficiencies despite the recession and automotive downturn.

Marton brings proven experience to take Sunset to the next level of maturity — its goal of exceeding $100 million in annual sales — and successfully position the company for the future.

“Craig strengthens our excellent leadership team so we can add more value for our customers,” Williams stated in the release. “He has the proven track record to strategically grow Sunset while also being a great fit for our culture of service, dedication, innovation and integrity. Also, since Craig has been a Sunset customer, he has a powerful understanding of what our customers want and need.”

With Marton leading day-to-day business operations, as well as mid- and long-term strategic planning and implementation, Williams is advising on strategic decisions as needed and focusing on business development and acquisitions, including the development of branch locations across the country. Marton also will mentor Williams’ daughter Lindsey Graves, currently vice president of operations, to prepare her to become the leader of Sunset in the future, ensuring continuity and a clear succession plan.

“I’m looking forward to working with Sunset’s team as we continue building on its success and powerful growth trajectory. As a proud Marine Corps veteran, my dedication to excellence with integrity resonates with Sunset’s values; it is my goal to develop strategies to amp up our customer focus and capabilities that will result in superior performance,” Marton stated.
