A St. Louis man was charged after injuring a woman during a robbery at a gas station in South County.

Chad Jones, 19, was charged Tuesday with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault for an incident that happened April 12 at the QuikTrip at 2030 Union Road.

According to a probable cause state from the St. Louis County Police Department, the victim was pumping gas when another vehicle, a Dodge Charge, pulled alongside and stopped. The driver of the Charger got out, went into the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle and stole her purse before returning to the Charger.

The woman confronted the man and placed her body on the hood of the Charger. The driver traveled a short distance in reverse with the victim still on the hood before accelerating the vehicle forward, causing the victim to be thrown to the pavement and sustain severe injuries, which required treatment at an area hospital.

Detectives reviewed video which showed the suspect vehicle before and after the incident and were able to identify Jones. According to the probable cause statement, Jones appeared to be wearing the same clothing as the perpetrator who exited the driver’s seat at the gas station and stole the woman’s purse.

Jones is being held on a $200,000 cash-only, no 10%, bond.
