After a carjacking in South County Thursday, a suspect led officers on a police chase into St. Louis city limits.

Officers from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Affton Southwest Precinct responded to a call about a carjacking and robbery at 1:14 p.m. Thursday at Lilac Ridge Lane and Kerth Road in Concord.

A 17-year-old girl had been robbed at gunpoint of her silver Kia Sorrento, police said. The girl was not injured during the carjacking. The intersection is at a residential subdivision.

Soon after the call for a carjacking, officers from the Affton Southwest Precinct noticed a silver Kia Sorrento matching the description of the carjacked SUV at northbound Interstate 55 and Bayless Avenue in Affton.

The driver of the car refused to stop after police activated their sirens, leading to a chase.  The pursuit ended at northbound Interstate 55 and Arsenal Street in St. Louis city limits when the suspect struck a curb with the Kia. An officer chasing the suspect was in a minor car accident, hitting a street sign at I-55 and Arsenal Street, but was not injured.

The suspect ran from the SUV, and police chased him on foot.

After an officer used a Taser on the suspect, he was taken into custody. Officers found a gun on him.

No officers were injured in the chase. The suspect had minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.

Anyone with information on the carjacking is asked to call investigators at 636-529-8210.
