The Sappington-Concord Historical Society is hosting its annual Memorial Day celebration on the green at St. Lucas United Church of Christ, 11735 Denny Road, on May 26 at 9 a.m.
The event, dubbed “the biggest, little annual Memorial Day celebration in South County,” is free, family-friendly and open to the public.
Lieutenant Commander John T. Waters, Commanding Officer of Base St. Louis for the United States Coast Guard, will be this year’s featured distinguished speaker. Waters is the Senior Mission Support Representative in the 22-State Western Rivers Region, supporting operations that protect $500 billion of annual commerce. Leading a diverse crew of 112 at 2 sites, he is responsible for mission support to 1,250 Coast Guard personnel, 17 cutters and 48 shore units.
Like in previous years, this year’s Memorial Day celebration will also include a ceremonial flyover by a local group of Stearman Biplane aircraft owners, as well as musical performances by Lauren Hoggatt, the Moolah Drum Corps and the Lindbergh High School Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Parking will be available on the east parking lot at St. Lucas.
