To the editor:
This is in response to “Another View” by Aaron Hilmer in the Aug. 25 edition of the Call.
I am a retired teacher in the public school system. I do not know where you are getting your data from, but if I was paid $485 dollars a day, I would be making $177,025 a year. I can tell you this right now that I don’t even make one-third of that amount.
Also, I have not had a cost-of-living adjustment in two years and probably will not get one for 2012. A COLA is not guaranteed.
I do not make what I made while I was still a teacher and never will make that amount.
You are basing your agenda on one person’s salary and you are doing all of us retired teachers a disservice.
You really need to get your facts straight and really find out what Missouri teachers’ retirement benefits are. I cannot fathom why you believe our system should change based on one person’s salary.
If you have a beef about what happened in the Mehlville School District, take it up with the district — not attack a system that works.
