To the editor:
This is ridiculous. It seems as though yearly there are new subdivisions, which means more taxes to the school system. Remember, years ago, the schools were threatening that they would have to cut programs, telling our children how to vote. When a tax increase did not pass, the school system found a couple of million dollars to keep the programs going. Interesting how you can just find millions of dollars.
I personally spoke to Senator Jim Lembke while he was in office and was told the school board has its claws into Jefferson City so deep. I think Jefferson City is forced to do what the school board “suggests.”
As a senior, our personal property tax shows over half of the taxes going to the school district.
We should not be held liable for that extreme responsibility anymore. We feel it should be reduced by 50% on real estate tax and no personal property tax for those who are blessed to have their home paid in full.
