Sydney Nanney, a seventh-grade pupil at Washington Middle School, has been nominated, interviewed and accepted into the People to People Student Ambassador Program, Class of 2004.
Sydney will travel to Australia in June.
The 18-day program consists of meetings with government officials, educational activities and home visits with host families.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower founded the People to People Program in 1956. He believed that if people from different cultures could come together in peace and friendship, so eventually would countries.
Sydney is the daughter of Jeff and Theresa Nanney of Concord.
Family, friends and businesses are assisting Sydney in her fund-raising efforts for the trip.
