To the editor:

I have been a tax-paying resident of the Mehlville School District for 13 years, and I have three children who are students at Washington Middle and Mehlville High.

Each day when my children go to school, I have no choice but to trust that they are in the care and under the protection of the teachers, administrators, secretaries, cooks, custodians, school nurses and bus drivers who are feeding, transporting and educating them. I hope that these people are caring for my children as if they were their own and that they are being vigilant in keeping our schools clean and safe.

Given the risks and challenges in today’s world, it makes sense to me to offer competitive wages for these jobs. Prop E is a 31-cent tax levy increase per $100 of assessed valuation. If you live in a home valued at $200,000, that’s like spending $10 per month. It’s worth it to me to vote YES on Prop E.
