Melvin ‘Mel’ Bequette celebrated his 96th birthday Aug. 6 with friends and neighbors at his home in Crestwood. Mel was born in 1924 and every year on Aug. 6 children from around the neighborhood and other surrounding neighborhoods come and decorate his home with balloons, signs and chalk drawings to wish Mel a happy birthday. Crestwood Police also stop by and pay him a visit.
