The Mehlville Optimist Club recently recognized Lindbergh High School seniors Brian Barrett and Anne Massey as Students of the Month.
The two were honored for service to their school and community, and excellence in leadership, academics and citizenship, according to a district news release.
Barrett is a National Merit Semifinalist and is pursuing an International Baccalaureate diploma. He founded and is president of Lindbergh High’s Gay-Straight Alliance, manages finances for the Philosophy Club, and has served as an ambassador on the Character Council.
He also plays in the Spirit of St. Louis Marching Band, symphonic band, Jazz Lab, jazz band, All-Suburban Band and full orchestra. In addition, Barrett volunteers for many community organizations.
Massey is vice president of National Honor Society, a Link Crew Orientation Leader and an A-Plus Tutor. As a member of the varsity Lady Flyers track and field team, she earned 2013 Missouri All-State honors in the 100-meter high hurdles and was the 2011 Missouri District 1 champion in the 100-meter high hurdles.
Massey also has served as a vacation Bible school teacher at Concord Church and a reading buddy for the Kirkwood Public Library.
In addition, she has attended mission trips to American Indian reservations in South Dakota and North Carolina with the Concord Church Youth Group.
