This summer, Lindbergh Schools welcomed an addition to the team: Julie Durham, the district’s new real-world learning coordinator. Durham got to work in July, and she hopes to use her new role to propel Lindbergh students to post-graduate success.
Durham is spearheading the growth of the Diploma+ program, which allows students to earn college credit or industry credentials — giving them an advantage when they step out of Lindbergh’s doors for the last time.
“My responsibilities include engaging with local businesses and community partners to develop real-world learning opportunities,” Durham said. “The ultimate goal is to equip students with a clear sense of purpose and direction, helping them build the skills and experiences they need to thrive in college, careers and life.”
According to Durham, her career journey has prepared her excellently to take on this role. In the past, she has worked as a small business owner, giving her the understanding of the professional world. She was also previously a business teacher at Lindbergh High School. Most recently, she says she played a key role in Wentzville School District’s nationally recognized Success Ready Programming, which connected students’ passions to career opportunities.
Already, Durham is working with leaders at Lindbergh to develop a new Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program for the upcoming school year. The two-year course provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue their CNA certification.
Durham has already put out feelers online for local businesses and professionals who would offer internships to Lindbergh students who are interested in veterinary science, engineering, real estate, law and more.
“This approach not only helps students discover and develop their passions but also provides them with a clear understanding of how their education connects to their future goals,” Durham said.
