Oakville High School senior Michael Cimo recently took third place at the national level of the National Association of Women in Construction’s (NAWIC) Education Foundation’s CAD Design/Drafting Program for his design of a home for a five-member family.

To qualify for the national level of the CAD Design/Drafting Program, Cimo’s project, which he designed during his Advanced Drafting class with OHS teacher Bob Faust, earned first place in both the local and regional divisions of the program.

“I put a lot of hard work into my project, so I was happy to win third but kind of surprised too,” stated Cimo, who is the son of David and Patricia Cimo.

Cimo and his OHS classmates, junior Jacob Faust and senior John O’Brien, swept the local level of the competition, earning first, second and third place, respectively, according to a district news release.

For his national third place finish, Cimo will receive an $800 scholarship from the NAWIC Education Foundation. The OHS senior plans to attend Missouri University of Science and Technology in the fall, where he will pursue a degree in engineering.

NAWIC is an international association whose purpose is to enhance the success of women in the construction industry. The St. Louis Chapter of NAWIC sponsors scholarships for both young women and young men pursuing construction-related degrees.
