Oakville High students earn journalism honors

Eight Oakville High School students earned write-off awards this month at the National High School Journalism Convention in Orlando, Fla.

Among the top winners were Caroline Tank, who won a Superior rating in Newspaper Commentary, and Veronica Mohesky, who received an Excellent rating in Broadcast On-Air Reporting.

Six other Oakville High students earned honorable mention in their contests.

Hannah Hoffmeister was honored in Newspaper Sports Writing; Cassidy Vuylsteke in Yearbook Copy and Captions: Clubs; Mollie Kohler in Broadcast Commentary; and the team of Johanna Carrigan, Jacque Dreppard and Kassidy Ham in Online News Package.

More than 2,000 students from across the country participated in the write-off contests, which were sponsored by the Journalism Education Association.

Of the St. Louis area schools, only Kirkwood with 12 awards received more honors than Oakville High School.
