Mehlville Garden Club members celebrate installation of Blue Star Memorial marker

Members of the Mehlville Garden Club recently celebrated the installation of a Blue Star Memorial marker on the grounds of the Ordnance Room at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Blue Star Memorials are placed in prominent places across the United States as a tribute to the nation’s servicemen and women.

Their placement is sponsored and paid for by garden clubs affiliated with National Garden Clubs Inc.

For the marker placed at Jefferson Barracks, the Mehlville Garden Club received two special donations. Bussen Quarries donated and placed the rock that holds the Blue Star emblem, and the St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation prepared the ground for the landscaping.

Among those present for the celebration were LaVerne Ehlmann, Lois Floro, Marilyn King, Maurene Templemeyer, Mary Lee Bonagurio, Mary House, Kim Anderson, Rachel Leonard, Melba George, Pam Hammersla, Mary Lou Franz, Dottie Warren, Elizabeth Roche, Linda Bolhofner and Carole Lyston.
