To the editor:
Several weeks before the April election, I commented to my wife that Chairman Aaron Hilmer should win re-election to his seat on the Mehlville Fire Protection District Board of Directors with at least 75 percent of the vote.
I reflected how much money Mr. Hilmer saved the district over the last several years. Clearly, I thought, Mehlville residents will realize how much he has accomplished — saving the taxpayers money, purchasing new equipment and building new firehouses.
I even made the passing comment that if Mr. Hilmer loses this election, I would lose faith in the south county voters and we’re simply moving to Switzerland.
I was shocked that he won by only 200 or so votes out of more than 14,000 cast — way too close. At least I didn’t have to pay the real-estate agent a commission.
