The parking lot of the Phillips 66 gas station in Affton had returned to normal Friday, July 24, following a shooting Thursday.

A suspect is in custody after allegedly shooting a man in a gas station parking lot in Affton.

The St. Louis County Police Department received a 911 call at roughly 4:45 p.m. Thursday reporting a shooting in the parking lot of the Phillips 66 gas station in the 9700 block of Mackenzie Road.

The victim, an adult man, had been shot after what police called an “altercation” in the parking lot. He and the shooter “exchanged words” in the parking lot before the shooting, police said. But a police spokeswoman was unsure if the two had a prior relationship.

The shooting victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated for what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

Police have one person in custody for the shooting, and they are not looking for any other suspects.

A police spokeswoman said the department would have more news to release later Friday. Check back to this article for updates.
