Lindbergh school celebrates veterans with drive-thru Veterans Day event

Sperreng Middle School students celebrated local veterans in a unique way on Veterans Day Nov. 11, with a socially distanced, drive-thru recognition event. Veterans drove through the school parking lot, and from the safety of their cars they enjoyed music, performances and messages of thanks from Sperreng students.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions and safety procedures, we are pivoting this year to show our appreciation and create a memorable moment for our veterans and families,” said Principal Lauren Boeger in a news release. “This is also an opportunity for our students to engage in a learning experience with a relevant, authentic local audience.”

Members of the band played music; the color guard waved red, white and blue flags; cheerleaders and dance team members performed; and student leaders held thank you signs. All of the students were socially distanced on the outdoor parade route.
