Lindbergh falls 10-7 to Parkway South

The Lindbergh High School football Flyers did everything in their power to avoid closing the 2012 season the same way they began it — losing to Parkway South.

But the Flyers fell to the Patriots 10-7 in the opening round of the playoffs Friday night.

The teams were deadlocked at 7-7 until the last two minutes of the game when Parkway South’s Lucas Bakula kicked a 41-yard field goal.

Isobo Amaso scored for the Flyers on a 25-yard pass play from Chuck Houska at 3:56 in the first quarter.

The Patriots drew first blood with a touchdown by Eddie Morris just a couple minutes earlier at 6:15 mark of the first.

Lindbergh head coach Tom Beauchamp told the Call he was proud of his players despite the end result.

“Our kids played really well,” he said. “Overall, they played hard; they didn’t give up. They gave them everything they wanted until the very end …

“They’re a pretty good team (Parkway South), so I felt pretty good about our whole effort. The kids played their hearts out.”

And though the Flyers ended the season with a record of 3-7, they experienced many ups and downs and showed some exceptional strength on defense.

The Flyers gave up 173 points on the season, which was good for fourth in the Suburban West Conference.

Beauchamp said he saw some pretty great things from his squad and is excited about what is ahead.

“I think they played really well overall,” he said. “I mean, I think we had a real good defensive year, and I think the kids played their butts off that way.

“I think it’s one of those situations where we had several kids, seniors, that rose to the occasion and became better players all year long and worked their tail off. And we’ve got a lot of kids coming back, so I’m excited about the future.”
