Lindbergh Class of 2021 follows their dreams

Students in Lindbergh High School’s 68th graduating class were awarded more than $12 million in scholarships this year, Principal Eric Cochran said during the May 26 commencement at POWERplex STL.

Of the 524 graduates, 74.1 percent plan to attend college, 3.1 percent plan to enroll in schools of advanced training, 3.2 percent plan to serve in the military, 12.4 percent plan to enter the workforce, and 7.2 percent are undecided.

Senior speakers Lily Franck and Mackenzie Sweeney encouraged classmates to use what they learned during this historic year to plan for their futures. Franck focused on the importance of remembering the good during a year full of changes.

“I hope as we leave Lindbergh High School that we can look back at our senior year and not dwell on what was taken from us, but what was salvaged. That we won’t be bitter about the cancelled events, and instead focus on the athletes who competed in front of empty stands, and the performers who put on theater productions for virtual audiences. That we won’t fixate on our virtual year, but instead, remember the students who were disciplined enough to do it alone,” said Franck.

Sweeney spoke to the Class of 2021 about creating a legacy and following their dreams after high school.

“I can’t even begin to describe what each and every one of you is capable of, the power that you have. Only you get to decide what you accomplish: how you treat others, what you devote your energy to, and how you live without being afraid of regrets and failure. Only you get to decide what legacy you’ll create every moment starting right now,” said Sweeney.

Once again this year, Lindbergh High was ranked among America’s best high schools by U.S. News and World Report.

In this year’s class, 251 students were awarded scholarships, among those 59 Missouri Bright Flight Scholarships; 16 athletic scholarships; 167 A+ scholarships and 9 music, theatre and arts scholarships.

The Class of 2021 also includes seven National Merit Finalists, seven National Merit Semifinalists, six National Merit Commended Students and two International Baccalaureate Diploma candidates.
