LHS student says that banning books is not the answer

Letters+to+the+editor

To the editor:

I am a 10th grader at Lindbergh High School and am writing about books in our school.

Some members of the community are wanting to ban certain books from our school library. I don’t feel this is right. It is not necessary to ban books dealing with topics that some people find uncomfortable. I am reading a book that deals with the LGBTQ community for English class right now. I am not bothered by it and neither are my parents.

I would suggest that if a parent or student is concerned about the material in an assigned book, speak to the teacher about an alternate book or assignment. Each family should be able to make the choice for themselves. Banning books is not the answer.
