The Grantwood Village Board of Trustees approved its 2022/2023 budget June 22. The budget will take effect July 1.

Resident Jim Albenesius presented last year’s budget report and the new budget to the board at the meeting. 

In 2021/2022 the village performed well in both revenues and expenses — it brought in $123,000 more than budgeted and spent $303,000 less than budgeted. Revenues were bolstered by $130,000 more than expected in taxes. A majority of unspent money was a result of unused road maintenance, snow removal and tree/landscaping budgets.

“We have kind of a unique budget because we have several big things we have to try to budget for and some of them are just hard to do,” Albenesius said.

Due to the large surplus in 2021/2022, Albenesius was able to leave some projects in for the new budget, including road maintenance ($165,000), the village hall parking lot ($50,000) and Grant Road streetlight maintenance ($45,000). Overall, the budgeted expenses remained the same at $673,000.

The only change to budgeted revenues was in the tax department. The budgeted revenue sits at $644,000, about $95,000 more than last year.
