Exhibitors Garden Club to sponsor flower show

By BILL MILLIGAN

The Exhibitors Garden Club will sponsor a flower show from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 3400 Lemay Ferry Road.

The exhibit, titled “Shall We Dine,” will feature club members’ horticultural designs that reflect on the amenities at such popular St. Louis-area eateries as Busch’s Grove, the Millennium Hotel’s Top of the Riverfront, Kemoll’s and Dominic’s.

The Exhibitors Garden Club, which is affiliated with the Eastern Missouri Chapter of the National Garden Clubs, last conducted a flower show in 1995. The club won a national award for that show, according to Marlene Whiteman, who is serving as co-chair of this year’s event.

“Half the show is artistic design, half is horticulture,” Whiteman said. “Our judges can look at a piece of plant matter and see if you’ve been taking care of it last year and this year.”

Admission to the show is free.
