Delia named first Teacher of the Year at Hanna Woods Elementary School

Robert Delia recently was named the first-ever Teacher of the Year at Hanna Woods Elementary in the Parkway School District.

He has taught at Hanna Woods Elementary School for six years and was selected by his colleagues as being extremely responsible, professional, compassionate and helpful to all teachers.

Delia, a graduate of Lindbergh High School and Rockhurst University, received his master’s degree in elementary education from Webster University and is working on obtaining an administrative certification in elementary education through Lindenwood University.

He believes teachers should be passionate about what they do in and out of the classroom, according to a news release. He dedicates himself to his children to help them achieve academically and be the best they can be, the release stated.

As a motivator to his pupils, Delia enlightens his class through “hands-on” real-life teaching experiences. He believes that every child needs to believe he or she can learn no matter what abilities or disabilities he or she may have.

As a counselor, he has made himself available to all pupils before and after school. Pupils can come to him with any issue and then work out that issue together as a team, according to the release.

As an educator, he helps instill the love of learning, allowing his pupils to experience daily success and achieve self-esteem. Delia believes it is important that each pupil grows not only academically, but also emotionally.

He is the son of Tony and Gloria Delia of Towne South in St. Louis County.
