To the editor:
Much of the debate over providing free contraceptive coverage within an insurance plan is missing one of the most important points.
Regardless of one’s opinion on contraceptives, the bigger picture should be the role of the government in the process.
This particular fight may be that of the Catholic Church being forced to provide a service/product that they are morally opposed to, but what action will the government mandate next that opposes your own beliefs?
Truly this issue is about First Amendment rights. When Americans are forced to do something that completely goes against their religious beliefs, we have lost sight of the values on which this country was founded. Many people seem to want the government to provide more and more for them. With each incremental step of more government, we lose more freedom. Be careful what you wish for.
