The Crestwood Board of Aldermen appointed the city’s 2025 Charter Review Commission at its Jan. 28 meeting.
Simply put, a city charter is like a city’s constitution. Crestwood’s charter was adopted by voters in 1995 with a provision requiring a Charter Review Commission be created at least every ten years to review the charter and determine if any amendments are needed to address current laws and community values. After a comprehensive review, the commission may recommend amendments to the charter for the board to consider.
Eight Crestwood community members, along with Mayor Scott Shipley, will serve on the 2025 Charter Review Commission. Lisa Bozdeck and Matthew Koehler will represent Ward 1, Christopher Pickel and Bob Sweeney will represent Ward 2, Lindbergh school board secretary Megan Vedder and Ted Yemm will represent Ward 3 and Lindbergh Schools Chief Communications Officer Beth Johnston and Angela Sebben will represent Ward 4.
The board unanimously appointed seven of the eight community members to the commission. To avoid conflict of interest, Angela Sebben, the wife of Ward 4 Alderman John Sebben, was appointed separately. She was appointed by a vote of 7-0-1, as her husband abstained from voting.
“The eight individuals I’ve appointed are all engaged and talented residents, including active members of our boards and commissions,” Shipley said. “There’s two attorneys, a former alderman and member of the 2015 commission, a Lindbergh School Board director and their chief of communications officer. I’m extremely confident that this commission will take these tasks seriously and provide thoughtful and meaningful recommendations for this board to consider later this year.”
