A couple in their 60s were the victims of an armed carjacking in broad daylight at the Butler Hill Schnucks Tuesday morning.

The man who was carjacked was also armed and fired at least one shot at the suspect as he drove away in the couple’s car, police said.

About 10:55 a.m., officers from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Affton Southwest Precinct responded to the Schnucks parking lot at 4333 Butler Hill Road for a report of a carjacking.

The victims said the man was loading groceries into the trunk of the couple’s car, with the woman in the driver’s seat of the beige 2014 Chevrolet Impala. A man approached them with a gun and demanded their car.

The woman got out of the car, and the suspect got in and quickly drove away.

The armed victim shot at least one time toward the fleeing car as the suspect took off.

The suspect was described by the victims as a black male, but police did not provide any other description.

The incident is under investigation by the St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons.

Anyone with information on the carjacking is asked to call the St. Louis County Police Department at 636-529-8210.
