Cor Jesu Academy and St. Joseph’s Academy recently collaborated for the 21st annual “funderwear” – a charitable competition to see which school can collect the most undergarments and raise the most money to benefit St. Patrick Center, an organization dedicated to ending homelessness in St. Louis.
The schools raised money and collected donations – including bras, socks and underwear – from Jan. 7 through Jan. 14. As per tradition, the friendly rivals came together on Jan. 14 for a basketball game and to announce how much was collected over the course of the week.
Cor Jesu may have won the game 65-42, but the real winner of the night was St. Patrick Center. Together the schools collected over 100,000 undergarments to donate. Monetary donations were collected and given as well.
To add to the fun of the night, Cor Jesu junior Lauren Ortwerth scored her 1000th career point. Ortwerth is the 12th-ever Cor Jesu student to reach this milestone. As a congratulations, she was given a celebratory basketball with her name and “1000” on it.
