The Mehlville Board of Education approved a resolution last week opposing any statewide legislation regarding open enrollment.

The board approved a resolution stating it was opposed to any open-enrollment legislation currently moving through the Missouri General Assembly.

Open enrollment allows students to attend schools outside the district they live in. There are currently several bills related to open enrollment up for discussion by the state Legislature, including a House bill that would require school districts to opt-in for accepting transfers.

Another bill sponsored by Sen. Andrew Koenig, R-Manchester, would require the same thing but also allows students to transfer to charter schools. The House bill only applies to public schools.
