Board of Education members deserve more respect, says reader

Letters+to+the+editor

To the editor:

I recently watched the video of the June 24 Mehlville Board of Education Meeting and I was appalled by the comments at the end. This unpaid board is doing their best to formulate science-based policies to provide a quality education and to keep our children, teachers, and community safe, while also providing accommodations for people with special needs or beliefs

I was sad to see two small but vocal groups spouting untrue facts and threatening the district with hostile, in-your-face disobedience and law suits.

I encourage all citizens to be respectful to each other while expressing opinions on these important matters.  The name-calling and threats were unnecessary.

Our Board of Education members, teachers, and parents are not “Godless Marxists and Socialists”. They are good people.  Competent people. They are not “destroying institutions that support freedom.”  They deserve our respect and our thanks – not our abuse.
