Based on the school’s efforts to eliminate hunger and help the community, Bierbaum was named a Feinstein School of Excellence by the Feinstein Foundation.

In February, Bierbaum Elementary School students combined their classroom lessons on healthy eating habits and their interest in helping others by collecting enough food to fill 85 healthy recipe packs for the families served by Feed My People, a local food pantry.

In each pack, families received a cookbook containing all of the healthy recipes contributed by Bierbaum students and staff.

For their efforts, Bierbaum Elementary has been named a Feinstein School of Excellence by the Feinstein Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the alleviation of hunger, the importance of community service in education and the values of caring, compassion and brotherhood.

“I was so proud of our students and staff when Mr. Feinstein called to tell us we would be receiving this award.” Bierbaum principal Kristy Roberts stated in a district news release. “The Feinstein Foundation recognizes schools all over the country who promote service learning and especially help local food pantries. Bierbaum did such a great job with the Healthy Recipes project, and we loved partnering with Feed My People and learning how to eat healthier at the same time. We all need to work together if we are going to eliminate hunger in our own community.”

As a Feinstein School of Excellence, Bierbaum Elementary will receive a check for $1,000 which it will use to further the school’s character education program by acquiring resources and materials for teaching students how to make good choices.

The Feinstein Foundation also will provide Bierbaum with a banner honoring the school’s Feinstein Junior Scholars.
