A church in Arnold is hosting a Wreaths Across America event next Saturday.

Wreaths will be placed on the graves of veterans laid to rest in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, 3517 Jeffco Blvd., Saturday Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. The event is part of National Wreaths Across America Day and will honor the 90 veterans laid to rest in the cemetery, the oldest of whom served in the Civil War.

There will be representatives from each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces in attendance, as well as Arnold Mayor Ron Counts.

“Each wreath which has been sponsored is a meaningful gift from a grateful American who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy,” Executive Director of Wreaths Across America Karen Worcester stated in a press release. “We are so grateful to the good people of this wonderful community for participating in our mission to Remember, Honor and Teach.”

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that carries out wreath-laying ceremonies each year in December at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries including St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery and Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

In 2021, ceremonies were held at more than 3,100 locations across the country, with 2.4 million wreaths placed for interred veterans.
